In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dawat-e-Islami demonstrated its unwavering commitment to supporting communities by establishing a dedicated COVID response team consisting of volunteers. Recognizing the challenges faced by vulnerable individuals, the organization established several food banks that delivered over 5,000 essential supplies to those in need in the Midlands. These efforts targeted the elderly, individuals in isolation, those shielding, young families, and those who suffered financial loss, among others. At times the volunteers took Annual leave from their day to day jobs to help and the food bank and deliver food parcels.
Going beyond immediate relief efforts, Dawat-e-Islami ensured long-term support by providing referrals and signposting members of the public to the relevant departments. This comprehensive approach acknowledged the multifaceted needs of community members during these challenging times and aimed to ensure sustained assistance for those most affected by the pandemic.


As soon as COVID cases started rising in the UK, many volunteers of Dawat-e-Islami came forward to support in giving Ghusls (Washing of the bodies) and providing funeral services as to what was going to come in the coming weeks. The Head of Funeral Services Birmingham Region (Midlands & Wales), Israr Attari, conducted Training sessions across the Midlands and other parts of the UK (Birmingham, Slough, Bradford, Nottingham and other cities). The volunteers were given training on how to wear and dispose of the PPE equipment safely.
A Temporary mortuary was set up in the car park at Faizan-e-Madina (Stechford, Birmingham) to deal with the rising death toll. During the first wave of the pandemic there was a increasing demand on funeral services of Birmingham due to the rising death toll. A team of volunteers and set up a temporary mortuary in the car Park at Faizan-E-Madina (Birmingham). This allowed people to organise the final rites of their loved ones whilst following the government guidelines. Within a space of days, a mortuary, Ghusl (washing) area and praying area was set up at one of the centres of Dawat-E-Islami in Stechford, Birmingham UK – with volunteers working around the clock to make sure these facilities were safe for the public and well managed. There are various stories that show the great commitment who would take time of work at short notice and help with the washing of the bodies at the difficult time.
